Hebei University Successfully Held the International Conference on Insect Science in 2023

From August 6th to 10th, The International Conference on Insect Science in 2023, The 5th International Conference of Insect Genomics and The 8th International Symposium on Insect Physiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, sponsored by Hebei University(HBU) and seven professional committees of the Entomological Society of China(ESC), undertaken by the School of Life Sciences of HBU and co-organized by the Entomological Society of China, was successfully held in Baoding. Professor Kang Le, Conference chair and President of HBU, and Professor Ary Hoffmann, Conference Co-Chair, Academician of Australian Academy of Sciences as well as Professor of Melbourne University attended the conference. Ten speakers including Professor Ary Hoffmann, Professor Chen Xuexin of Zhejiang University, Professor Anthony A. James of University of California (online), Professor Li Sheng of South China Normal University, Professor Ted Turlings of the University of Neuchâtel, Researcher Wang Sibao of Institute of Science of Plant Physiology and Ecology, SIBS, CAS, Professor Marcelo Jacobs-Lorena of Johns Hopkins University, Professor Zhang Wei of Peking University, Professor Corrie Moreau of Cornell University and Professor Sun Jianghua of Hebei University were invited to attend the Conference and give a report. Moreover, 37 international representatives from 10 countries including the United States, Switzerland and Australia, and more than 580 domestic representatives as well as teachers and students of related disciplines of HBU attended the Conference.

The opening ceremony of the Conference was presided over by Professor Li Fei, Director of the Special Committee on Insect Physiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Vice President of Guizhou University. He briefly introduced the origin and development of the International Conference on Insect Science, the International Conference of Insect Genomics and the International Symposium on Insect Physiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Academician Kang Le, president of HBU, first made an important speech, in which he expressed warm welcome and sincere thanks to all the experts and scholars attending this academic conference. Then he introduced the development of entomology researches in China, and focused on HBU, especially its important achievements in foundation and application. He hopes that this conference will improve the academic level of zoology, molecular biology, insect science and other related research in HBU, promote the cooperation and academic exchanges between HBU and other research institutions at home and abroad in this field, and boost the construction of double first-class disciplines in life sciences, and wish this conference a complete success. Finally, Professor Chen Bing, Secretary General of the Conference and Vice President of the School of Life Sciences of HBU, reported the attendance and Vice President Dong Sijun of School of Life Sciences of HBU attended the opening ceremony.

This conference is a great event in the field of entomology in the world. Experts attending the conference set up 10 conference reports, 212 special reports in 16 sub-venues and 87 wall newspapers around the theme of Frontier in Molecular Insect Science and Prospects for a New Era, focusing on the hot and difficult academic spots in the world frontier in this field, so as to greatly enhance the academic level and international influence of double first-class construction disciplineBiology. At the conference, 38 students won the Best Oral Report Award and the Best Wall Newspaper Award, which greatly affirmed their efforts and staged achievements in scientific research.

The convening of this conference provides a high-level academic exchange platform for the global entomology and ecology research field, promotes the academic exchange and cooperation between relevant universities or scientific research institutions at home and abroad, and plays a positive role in promoting the construction of double first-class universities in HBU.
